Description

Pulsar Nova Customers

The Nova Noise at Work Sound Level Meter is an integrating-averaging sound level meter ideal for occupational noise assessments. The Nova complies with IEC 61672-1:2013 and is available as a Class 1 or Class 2 meter, with Class 2 suitable for general noise monitoring and Class 1 providing the increased accuracy required for certain applications or regulations. The Nova Noise at Work measures Leq, Lpeak and other essential occupational noise parameters with simultaneous A, C, and Z frequency weightings and Fast, Slow, and Impulse time weightings.

Suitable for occupational noise assessments

The Nova Noise at Work is ideal for occupational noise assessments, as it simultaneously measures all essential occupational noise parameters. It covers a dynamic measurement range of 20 dB(A) to 140 dB(A) and is suitable for occupational noise assessments across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, education, construction, healthcare and entertainment.

Straightforward operation with a robust design

The Nova Noise at Work Sound Level Meter has a robust die-cast aluminium casing, making it ideal for use in a variety of environments. Its bright TFT display remains clear in a wide range of lighting conditions, and the soft-touch keypad and intuitive menu system make navigation effortless. All frequency and time weightings are measured simultaneously for ease of use, and the included alkaline batteries typically provide more than 30 hours of battery life, allowing the meter to be used continuously for extended periods.

Data logging and licence-free reporting software

The Nova includes data logging as standard, storing measurements on its 8 GB memory card. Data can be easily downloaded to our licence-free AnalyzerPlus software for analysis and reporting.

Optional upgrades and other Nova models

The Nova Noise at Work can be upgraded at any time after purchase, allowing additional functionality to be added as requirements change. The optional 1:1 octave band upgrade provides a breakdown of the frequencies that make up the measured noise, allowing you to identify problematic frequencies and select the most appropriate hearing protection.

For environmental noise assessments that require additional functionality, such as repeat timers and Ln values, the Nova range also includes the Nova Environmental Sound Level Meter.

Product Options

The Nova Noise at Work Sound Level Meter is available as a Class 1 or Class 2 meter and can be purchased on its own or as a complete kit that includes the meter, an acoustic calibrator, and a carrying case.

Class Options

A Class 1 sound level meter is slightly more accurate than a Class 2 model. For most environmental noise measurements, we recommend a Class 1 meter, as it offers better performance at higher frequencies and provides added confidence when presenting results for legal or regulatory purposes.

Instructions

The sections below outline the basic operation of the Nova Noise at Work Sound Level Meter. For full instructions, please refer to the user manual.

Powering Up

The Nova uses six AA batteries, providing over 30 hours of operation. Fit quality alkaline or lithium batteries and replace the cover securely. Press the power button. The display will light up, and the instrument will start on the last view used. The bright TFT screen adapts automatically to your environment for clear readings in any lighting.

Calibrating the Nova

Before starting your measurements, select Menu > Calibrate, then place the microphone fully into the acoustic calibrator cavity and follow the on-screen prompts. The Nova automatically checks the calibration level and applies any necessary correction. Repeat the calibration at the end of your session to ensure accurate measurements.

Starting a Measurement

Press Start to begin a measurement. The Nova Noise at Work measures and logs all parameters simultaneously, including Leq, Lmax, Lmin and Peak.

During measurement, the display shows the current sound level with a running average. Use the arrow keys to switch between different views. Changing what is displayed does not affect the data being recorded.

Stopping the Measurement

Press Stop to end the measurement. The measurement is automatically stored and ready for review on the instrument by selecting Menu > Review Stored Data, or by downloading it to the licence-free AnalyzerPlus software.

Download to AnalyzerPlus

Connect the Nova to your PC using the supplied USB cable and open the AnalyzerPlus software. From here, you can download data, review results, create reports and configure the instrument.

Applications

The Nova Noise at Work Sound Level Meter is designed for occupational noise assessments, providing simultaneous measurement of Leq and Peak measurements.

Workplace Noise

In workplace environments, the Nova Noise at Work provides a quick and reliable way to assess noise levels across a wide range of activities. It measures all key parameters simultaneously, helping determine whether exposure is likely to exceed action levels and if further monitoring is required. With optional 1:1 Octave Band Analysis, it can also be used to select the most effective hearing protection for each task or environment.

Classroom Noise

In educational settings, the Nova Noise at Work Sound Level Meter can be used to measure noise levels in workshops, laboratories, or maintenance areas. Regular checks help ensure staff are not exposed to harmful levels of noise during practical activities or the use of equipment, supporting compliance with workplace noise regulations.

Construction Noise

On construction sites, the Nova Noise at Work offers an easy-to-use solution for monitoring noise from tools, machinery, and site activities. It helps ensure compliance with noise regulations and helps to maintain safe working conditions for workers. With optional 1:1 Octave Band Analysis, it can also be used to select the most effective hearing protection for each task or environment, which is especially important on busy sites where over-protection can present a significant risk.
