Noise Dosimeters
About Our Noise Dosimeters
All of our noise dosimeters can be supplied as complete personal noise measurement kits, including the dosimeter, mounting accessories, charger and reader units where required, and a carrying case. Each dosimeter is supplied with a valid calibration certificate and warranty.
Noise Dosimeters for Occupational Noise Assessments
Noise dosimeters are worn close to the ear to measure individual noise exposure over the working day, particularly when sound levels vary or when measurements with a sound level meter are impractical. Each of our noise dosimeters measures key occupational noise parameters, including LAeq, LEP,d and LCpeak, and is compatible with our licence-free AnalyzerPlus software for analysis and reporting.
Choosing the Right Noise Dosimeter for Your Environment
The NoisePen is a compact, easy-to-use personal noise dosimeter that supports scheduled measurements for routine occupational noise monitoring.
For organisations that need a more durable personal noise dosimeter, the NoiseBadge offers a robust, shoulder-mounted alternative to the NoisePen. With a metal casing, it is ideal for industries such as construction, demolition and heavy manufacturing, where durability is essential.
For hazardous or potentially explosive atmospheres, the Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge provides a certified solution for use in mining, petrochemical facilities and other environments where combustion risks must be carefully managed.
Noise Dosimeter FAQs
What class are noise dosimeters? Do you have a class 1 noise dosimeter?
Noise dosimeters are Class 2, perfect for occupational noise measurements and for conducting noise exposure assessments. Class 1 noise dosimeters are not available.
Do I need to calibrate noise dosemeters?
Yes. There are different types of calibration. You need to field calibrate your dosemeter every time you take a measurement series with an acoustic calibrator. With the Pulsar NoisePen you are prompted to field calibrate and then programme your meter. With the Pulsar Noise Dosemeter System the reader unit has a built in calibrator which you use every time you set up the badges and download the measurements.
You will need to have your noise dosemeters factory calibrated (periodic verification) at least every two years, however Pulsar recommend you return your instrument annually to us for recalibration and in return we will extend your product warranty up to 10 years. All instruments leave Pulsar Instruments professionally calibrated and are supplied with a valid calibration certificate to international standards.
Will they record sound or people’s conversations?
No. Noise dosimeters record sound levels (decibel levels); they do not record actual sounds or conversations.
How long do they record noise levels for?
The Pulsar NoisePen can be pre-programmed to record personal sound exposure for upto 30 hours; you can programme the meter to start and stop and start again, giving you a full weeks worth of measurements. The Noise Dosimeter System must be started and stopped at the beginning and end of each day; it will give you a full day of measurements, they can then be put on charge overnight for the next day.
What measurements do they take?
The Pulsar NoisePen measures LAeq, LCPeak or LZPeak with Fast, Slow or No time-weightings in the range of 70-140dB(A) and 90-143dB(C). The Noise Dosemeter System at a 3dB exchange measures LAeq, LEX,8h, LAE, %Dose, Exposure, Estimated %Dose, Estimated Exposure, and at 4 and 5dB exchange it includes LAVG, TWA, %Dose, Estimated %Dose. The range is 70-130dB(A) and 120-140dB(C).
