Description
The NoiseBadge Intrinsically Safe Noise Dosimeter is a durable, shoulder-mounted personal noise dosimeter designed for monitoring an individual’s daily noise exposure in hazardous or potentially explosive environments. Fully compliant with IEC 61252:1993 and ANSI S1.25:1991, the NoiseBadge captures all essential occupational noise parameters, including LAeq, LEP,d (LEX,8h), LCPeak, TWA and % Dose over a full working day. With no buttons, screens or cables, it cannot be adjusted or tampered with during use, ensuring reliable and accurate measurements.
Intrinsic safety for hazardous environments
Certified to UKEX, ATEX, EEx, FM and SIMTARS intrinsic safety standards, the Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge is approved for use in environments where there is a risk of combustion from gases, vapours or dusts. It is suitable for hazardous settings such as mining operations, oil and gas facilities, petrochemical processing plants and workplaces where fine powders may be present.
Only the NoiseBadge Intrinsically Safe Noise Dosimeter and its approved shoulder-mounting accessories are certified for use inside potentially explosive atmospheres. The Reader Unit, Charger and all other accessories are not intrinsically safe and must not be used in a hazardous area. All processes, including charging, calibrating, configuring and downloading, must be carried out in a safe location outside the hazardous zone.
Suitable for occupational noise exposure assessments worldwide
The Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge is ideal for monitoring an individual’s noise exposure throughout the day, particularly where employees move between different tasks or locations. It covers a dynamic measurement range of 70 dB(A) to 130 dB(A) and is suitable for occupational noise assessments across a wide range of industries, including construction, demolition and heavy manufacturing.
To meet regulations worldwide, the NoiseBadge supports exchange rates of 3 dB, 4 dB, or 5 dB. It measures on two channels simultaneously, with channel 1 configurable and channel 2 fixed to ISO’s 3 dB measurements, allowing compliance with different international noise regulations in a single measurement.
Built for durability and daily use
Constructed with a robust metal casing, the Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge meets the demands of environments where it is prone to frequent knocks or drops. Its lightweight, cable-free design makes it comfortable to wear on the shoulder using the provided leather mounting strap, and with a rechargeable battery providing up to 20 hours of operation, the NoiseBadge can run for a full shift.
Fast setup and data download with the Reader Unit
The Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge requires a Reader Unit for configuration, calibration and data download. All settings are controlled through the Reader rather than on the dosimeter itself, meaning the badges remain tamper-proof while in use. The Reader allows multiple NoiseBadges to be activated at the start of a shift and stopped again at the end. Measurements can also be viewed directly on the Reader’s clear backlit LCD display before downloading to AnalyzerPlus.
Straightforward reporting with AnalyzerPlus
Once data is downloaded via the Reader Unit, measurements can be viewed, analysed and reported on using our licence-free AnalyzerPlus software. Time History data shows how exposure changes throughout the day, helping you identify high-risk activities or noise sources.

Instructions
The sections below outline the basic operation of the Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge Noise Dosimeter. For full instructions, please refer to the user manual.
Powering and Charging
Place each NoiseBadge on the charging dock until the green light shows solid. A full charge takes approximately 3 hours and provides around 20 hours of continuous use. The badge can remain on trickle charge when not in use.
Resetting and Calibrating the NoiseBadge
Before and after each measurement, place the badge into the calibrator cavity of the Reader unit, ensuring the infrared window on the NoiseBadge aligns with the window on top of the Reader unit. Press Reset to clear previous data, load the current configuration, and update the date and time. Then press Cal to automatically calibrate the dosimeter and apply any necessary adjustment.
Attaching the NoiseBadge
After calibration, attach the NoiseBadge securely to the worker’s shoulder using the supplied mounting strap. The microphone should sit within 10 cm of the ear. Ensure the badge is stable and not rubbing against clothing, as this can affect readings.
Starting a Measurement
Aim the Reader at the NoiseBadge, ensuring the infrared windows are aligned, and press Run on the Reader. The indicator light on the badge will start flashing to confirm it is actively measuring. The badge will start measuring automatically, recording all key parameters including LAeq, LEP,d, % Dose, and TWA throughout the working period.
Stopping a Measurement
At the end of the shift, aim the Reader at the NoiseBadge, ensuring the infrared windows are aligned, and press Stop on the Reader to end the measurement. The indicator light on the badge will stop flashing to show that the measurement has stopped.
Removing the NoiseBadge
After stopping a measurement, remove the badge carefully and check that the indicator light has stopped flashing before performing the post-measurement calibration and downloading data.
Downloading Data
Insert the badge into the calibrator cavity on the Reader and perform a post-measurement calibration. Press Read on the Reader to download the measurement from the badge. Connect the Reader to AnalyzerPlus to download and review your measurements. Reports can be generated directly within AnalyzerPlus, or data can be exported for further analysis. Stored measurements can also be viewed on the Reader’s display, which can hold approximately 768 hours of data from multiple NoiseBadges.
Applications
The Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge Noise Dosimeter is designed for personal noise exposure monitoring in environments where explosive gases, vapours or dusts may be present. It measures all key parameters, including LAeq, LEP,d, % Dose, and TWA, to provide a complete picture of a worker’s daily noise exposure. Compact, cable-free and certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, it allows continuous monitoring without introducing ignition risks.
Mining Industry Noise
The Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge is ideal for use in mining operations where heavy machinery, blasting and crushing activities create consistently high noise levels. Mines are required to monitor personal noise exposure to protect workers’ hearing and meet regulatory standards. With its intrinsic safety certification and compact, cable-free design, the NoiseBadge enables continuous noise exposure monitoring even in confined or underground environments.
Oil and Gas Industry Noise
In oil and gas operations, from offshore platforms to refineries and pipeline facilities, workers often operate in hazardous areas where electrical equipment poses a risk of ignition. The Intrinsically Safe NoiseBadge Noise Dosimeter provides a safe way to measure personal noise exposure in these environments. It allows accurate, shift-long monitoring for engineers, technicians and support staff without introducing safety risks. The NoiseBadge supports compliance with workplace noise regulations and helps identify where exposure limits are likely to be exceeded.
