Noise Warning Signs
Industry & Factories - When a noise survey or risk assessment has been made, areas may be found where hearing protection must be worn or where high noise levels will occur during the working day. It may not be practicable for employees to wear hearing protection constantly, especially where the noise levels are intermittent or vary significantly over the day. The PulsarSafeEar Noise Warning Signs – ‘Hearing Protection Must Be Worn’ (Version 1) can be used to show when hearing protection must be worn in these areas. Where hearing protection is not required but there is still a need to warn when the noise levels are high, ‘Warning High Noise Levels’ (Version 2) would be appropriate.
It is essential for anyone entering these areas to be prepared and already wearing hearing protection.
A Remote Unit can be connected to the Master Unit and positioned outside of the work area, next to an entrance or a door for example. This will ensure that anyone entering the room will be aware of the high noise levels and the need to wear appropriate hearing protection.
Healthcare & Hospitals - Noise is often reported as the primary cause of sleep deprivation and disturbance amongst patients. As such, keeping an eye on noise levels can assist in the recovery process as well as helping to create a calm and peaceful working environment.
Visitors and staff can be informed when the noise levels are getting above an acceptable level using the PulsarSafeEar. The ‘SHHH Quiet Zone’ (Version 4) shows a clear message which can be displayed in public areas.
Remote units can be added to extend the coverage to entrance halls, cafeterias and any other locations where people gather and where raised voices or mobile telephones may cause a nuisance.
Schools & Colleges - There have been many studies which show that high noise levels in a learning environment can affect both students and teachers. Any environment where children and students gather is likely to be noisy! Controlling noise levels can help to reduce the risk of hearing damage in young children as well as making the learning environment more pleasant.
Many buildings that are used for education were not designed with noise in mind, with hard walls and floors often creating a noisy environment with only a few students. The PulsarSafeEar can be used to warn students when noise levels are getting high and also to inform staff of when problems may occur.
The PulsarSafeEar can be used in cafeterias, classrooms and corridors when examinations are in progress to help to maintain a quiet environment. ‘SHHH! Quiet Zone’ (Version 4) is ideal for these locations.
Many colleges have music facilities and monitoring the noise levels that both students and staff are exposed to can often be difficult. Music teachers and tutors can often experience high occupational noise levels which can be above legal limits.
If a noise survey indicates areas where high noise levels may occur, a PulsarSafeEar can be installed to give a clear warning and when used with a Data Logger, it can produce a record of noise levels over a period of time.
Remote units can be added to ensure that anyone entering these areas is aware of the risk to their hearing and can take appropriate action.
Music & Entertainment - Noise levels in pubs, clubs and other entertainment venues will often be high to create the right atmosphere. However, if you have any noise limits or controls put upon you or if you are looking to protect your employees from noise exposure, then the PulsarSafeEar is the ideal product.
Lightweight and simple to use, the PulsarSafeEar can be used for temporary venues as well as for permanent installation.
A Data Logger can be added to the unit to record the noise levels and produce a record that can be printed out for reference. Remote units can be added to make sure everyone is aware of the risk of noise exposure even if they are away from the noise sources.
Libraries - Most of us think of libraries as quiet environments, but more and more libraries are using technology to provide additional services to visitors. Cafes are often found in libraries along with other activities that may generate noise.
Computers, printers, copiers and other electronic equipment all produce noise and when there are many people moving around, talking or working on computer keyboards, the noise levels may start to disturb others.
A PulsarSafeEar with the ‘SHHH! Quiet Zone’ (Version 4) warning can help to keep noise levels under control. This effective unit will light up when noise levels go over a pre-set level, which can be set at any value down to 40dB(A), and will inform visitors and staff that the noise is becoming too high.
Remote Units (also known as slave boards) can be added and placed in corridors or other high traffic areas to ensure the peace and quiet is maintained in essential areas.

Noise Level Measurement
The PulsarSafeEar can be upgraded to become a data logging noise level measurement unit by adding the USB software. This simply plugs into the the PulsarSafeEar and can record noise levels over long periods of time. The Data Logger can be programmed to start recording at a specific time and date and run, for example, over an 8 hour shift.
When plugged into a PC the software will display a graph of the recorded noise levels and allow the data to be printed, exported and annotated for reference.Click on the link to download the latest version of PulsarSafeEar software.

Safe Noise Levels
The PulsarSafeEar is also available with additional remote display units which are controlled by the Master Unit to inform you of safe noise levels in the workplace. A simple cable from the Master Unit can control up to 3 Remote Units by daisy-chaining them together so that a wide area can be covered. Another common use for the Remote Units is to position one at the entrance to a high noise level environment such as above the door to a noisy workshop. This can help to ensure that anyone entering this environment is aware of the need to wear hearing protection or is aware of the risk of high noise levels.
Pulsar Instruments has launched a transportable version of the PulsarSafeEar, developed in partnership with Interserve Construction Limited, to be used at live construction environments. The system consist of a PulsarSafeEar master board fixed on a transportable heavy duty tripod that allows it to be transported about easily as tradesmen worked around the building. The heavy duty tripod gives it a stable mounted base that can move with the sign, wherever the building requires it to be transported due to the tasks being completed. The type of tripod used prevents the sign being knocked over accidently.
