Description

The Pulsar vB Hand-Arm Vibration Meter is designed to measure vibration from power tools and machinery in accordance with vibration-at-work regulations. It provides accurate measurements of the key parameters required for Hand-Arm Vibration assessments, including Aeq, Peak, Vector Sum and HSE Exposure Points.

Simple setup and real-time results

A compact, robust design and minimal setup make the Pulsar vB easy to use in real working environments. Simply attach the accelerometer, switch on and press record. Real-time measurements from the X, Y and Z axes are displayed on the colour screen. Once the measurement is complete, the Pulsar vB calculates HSE Exposure Points and displays the Exposure Action Value (EAV) and Exposure Limit Value (ELV) times.

Effortless data storage and reporting

The vB stores approximately 992 measurements in its internal flash memory, which can be reviewed on the screen or downloaded to a PC for analysis and reporting using vBPlus software.

Instructions

The sections below outline the basic operation of the Pulsar vB Hand-Arm Vibration Meter. For full instructions, please refer to the user manual.

Setting up the Pulsar vB

Attach the tri-axial accelerometer securely to the tool using the supplied mounting block and fixings. Mount as close to the operator’s grip as possible and route the cable safely. Align the plug with the red mark on the Pulsar vB’s LEMO socket and push straight in. To remove, pull back the connector to release.

Starting a Measurement

Switch the Pulsar vB on by holding the power button. To start a measurement, press the Run/Stop/OK button. Measure for at least thirty seconds; longer samples improve accuracy. Press the Run/Stop/OK button again to stop measuring.

Reviewing and Downloading

View results on screen and, if enabled, see Exposure Points after stopping a measurement. The Pulsar vB can store approximately 992 measurements. To download data, switch the instrument off, connect it to your PC using the supplied USB cable, then switch it back on. Once connected, the Pulsar vB is ready to transfer data to the vBPlus software. For full details on downloading measurements, refer to the vBPlus software user manual.

Applications

The Pulsar vB Hand-Arm Vibration Meter is designed for professionals who need fast, accurate assessments of vibration exposure from hand-held tools.

Hand-Arm Vibration at Work

Excessive hand-arm vibration can cause serious long-term conditions such as Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and Vibration White Finger. The Pulsar vB makes it easy to measure vibration directly at the tool handle, helping identify exposure risks and maintain compliance with workplace safety standards.

Accurate and easy to use, the Pulsar vB records vibration in three axes simultaneously, providing clear readings of Arms, Aeq, Peak and Vector Sum. The Pulsar vB displays real-time vibration levels during measurement and calculates exposure points once the measurement is complete. When used together, the HAVi records trigger time while the Pulsar vB measures vibration magnitude, allowing a complete and accurate assessment of daily vibration exposure.

  1. Keith Tomkins – The Wildlife Trusts

The product is exactly what we wanted, something to measure vibration at source in order to better manage our HAVs requirements. It works well and is simple to use, with the opportunity to work directly from the meter or in comfort in the office with the simple software.
