Pulsar vB² – Human Vibration Meter

The vB²’s plug-and-play design means that you can purchase either the hand-arm or whole-body attachment and upgrade to add the other sensor at any point in the future.

We understand that a vibration risk assessment may be a small part of your job, which is why the vB² is designed to make your assessments as effortless as possible.

The Pulsar vB² Human Vibration Meter includes a standard 1-year warranty, which can be extended to 7 years when the instrument is returned to Pulsar Instruments for annual calibration.

Instructions

The sections below outline the basic operation of the Pulsar vB2 Hand-Arm Vibration Meter.

 

Setting up the Pulsar vB2

Select the correct accelerometer for hand-arm or whole-body measurement. For hand-arm, securely attach the tri-axial accelerometer to the tool using the supplied mounting block or suitable fixings, positioning it as close to the operator’s grip as possible, and route the cable safely. For whole-body measurements, place the accelerometer on the seat or on the floor where the operator stands. Align the connector with the red mark on the vB2 socket, then push it straight in. To remove, pull back the connector without twisting.

 

Starting a Measurement

Switch the Pulsar vB2 on by holding the power button. The instrument will automatically detect whether a hand-arm or whole-body accelerometer is connected. If needed, use the menu to adjust settings for the type of measurement you are taking, such as range or time history. Press the Run/Stop/OK button to begin measuring. For hand-arm measurements, record for at least thirty seconds. For whole-body measurements, use a longer sample to improve accuracy. Press the Run or OK key again to stop the measurement.

 

Reviewing and Downloading

View results on screen and, if enabled, see Exposure Points after stopping a measurement. The Pulsar vB2 can store approximately 2000 measurements. To download data, switch the instrument off, connect it to your PC using the supplied USB cable, then switch it back on. The Pulsar vB2 will be ready to transfer data to the vBPlus software. For full details on downloading measurements, refer to the vBPlus software user manual.

Hand-Arm Vibration at Work

Excessive hand-arm vibration can lead to conditions such as Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and Vibration White Finger. The Pulsar vB2 measures vibration directly at the tool handle, helping identify exposure risks and maintain compliance with workplace safety standards.

Accurate and easy to use, the Pulsar vB2 records vibration in three axes simultaneously, providing clear readings of Arms, Aeq, Peak and Vector Sum. The Pulsar vB2 displays real-time vibration levels during measurement and calculates exposure points once the measurement is complete. When used together, the HAVi records trigger time while the Pulsar vB2 measures vibration magnitude, allowing a complete and accurate assessment of daily vibration exposure.

 

Whole-Body Vibration at Work

Workers who operate vehicles or machinery, such as forklifts, excavators, and tractors, are also exposed to whole-body vibration. Long-term exposure can contribute to musculoskeletal issues and lower back pain.

The Pulsar vB2 enables quick and reliable whole-body vibration assessment by measuring acceleration at the seat or floor, in line with the relevant standards. The Pulsar vB2 provides clear readings of A8 exposure, helping organisations evaluate risks, understand how different vehicles or machines perform, and make informed decisions to reduce vibration exposure.
