Chesterfield College of Further Education was the first of many UK education institutions to install the innovative PulsarSafeEar noise activated warning system in their workshops with great success to control classroom noise levels and to help in protecting students hearing.
Demonstrating to students when safe noise levels are exceeded.
Paul Lowry, Health and Safety Officer at Chesterfield College, said: “Before installing the PulsarSafeEar, we had to rely on random noise testing in areas such as auto workshops, engineering, silversmith and brick workshops. But the PulsarSafeEar is really simple, accurate and visual. As soon as noise levels in the workshop go over the legal limit, the high-intensity white LED sign flashes on the wall and teachers and students can immediately see they need to wear hearing protection.”
Lowry added, that lecturers are really enthusiastic about the product “They see the PulsarSafeEar as a teaching aid for learners. They are pulling this device into the lesson to make the point about variable noise and when protection is and isn’t needed.”
Shaun Smith, a Team Leader and Engineering Technician at the college, says “We have installed two units in our vehicle refinishing shop. The design is really eye-catching and easy to use. The students notice when it lights up and they can see how a sharp noise is as damaging as a prolonged sound.”
PulsarSafeEar is available with a range of graphics and text which allows it to be used in schools, universities and colleges where there is a need to warn of high classroom noise levels and a clear policy about protecting students hearing. Sarah Brack, Managing Director of Pulsar Instruments, said “PulsarSafeEar system has been designed to help in areas where noise fluctuates a great deal and people can’t wear protection all the time. Like all good ideas and all Pulsar noise measurement products, it is very simple – flashing on the wall when noise reaches a pre-set level”.
Key features of the PulsarSafeEar noise activated warning system include:
PulsarSafeEar is suitable for both quiet and noisy environments.
- Lights up when a pre-set noise level is exceeded
- Quick and simple to install
- Trigger level from 40dB(A) to 114dB(A)
- Adjustable, high-intensity white LED technology and a long operating life
- 4 standard designs to cover both quiet and noisy environments (custom designs are available)
- Daisy-chain units together to cover larger areas
- Upgrade to log and store noise at work data
