Why you should use the Pulsar Nova noise meter for noise monitoring
Noise Meters have come a long way since they were first launched and are becoming increasingly easy to operate. The Pulsar Nova noise meter is the latest addition to an already extensive range of noise measurement instruments. They have been designed for busy health and safety professionals who have little time to spare reading extensive manuals or to undergo lengthy training. All noise monitoring measurements and parameters required under the Noise at Work Regulations (2005) are made in 3 easy steps with the Pulsar Nova noise meter: Switch On, Calibrate and Measure.
The latest Pulsar Nova range are the preferred measurement method of safety and health experts for occupational and industrial hygiene noise measurements such as in the UK Noise at Work Regulations (2005), OSHA and other international occupational noise regulations.
In this video, you will discover how this robust new meter can help HSE professionals with noise monitoring in the workplace at the push of a button. We demonstrate how easy it is to view the different measurement options such as: Instantaneous Sound Pressure Level (SPL), Leq – LCPeak, Projected exposure levels, Octave Band Analysis, and Ln values as well as downloading noise measurement data using Pulsar AnalyzerPlus software.

Hello, I’m Sarah Brack, Managing Director of Pulsar Instruments plc .
For 45 years, Pulsar has manufactured compliant, robust and practical noise measurement instrumentation. Our years of experience have led us to this: The Nova, our latest generation of sound level meters.
Designed, developed and manufactured in the UK, the Nova is quite simply the easiest sound level meter to use on the market. The Nova range of sound level meters offers you the flexibility to choose the features you require for your chosen application at a competitive price.
The Nova has a durable, robust, die-cast metal case, an intuitive, easy to navigate keypad and uses the latest technology OLED colour display. When we designed the Nova to improve reliability, we opted for a LEMO connector with a removable preamp. The LEMO connector is industry-leading, is foolproof and incredibly tough.
Upon opening the battery cover at the back of the instrument, you will find 6 double AA type battery. This offers an unparalleled forty hours or more of measurement time.
Under the protective cover at the base at the instrument, you will find the removable memory card giving you the confidence to know that your measurement data is safe.
Uniquely, the Nova will remind you to calibrate your instrument prior to starting your measurements.
It’s impossible to make a mistake whilst measuring with a Nova as it simultaneously measures time weightings, frequency weightings and parameters. When a measurement is in progress, you can use arrows right and left and up and down to view different parameters. This screen shows the instantaneous sound pressure level SPL. This is the information screen. For the Health and Safety Professionals measuring noise at work, this screen shows Leq and LCpeak along with Time History graph. The projected exposure levels show this averaged out over an eight-hour period. Octave Band analysis measured in real time and help with the prescription of the correct hearing protection. Statistical Ln values are used for environmental noise measurement when working out background noise levels and back to the information screen that shows the measurement data and features stored within the Nova.
Downloading your measurement data to create informative, professional-looking reports couldn’t be easier. Simply connect the instrument to the PC using the mini USB cable provided and using the AnalyzerPlus software suite, download your measurement data and, within two clicks, create a report which can be saved or printed for future reference.
So, I hope you have enjoyed this brief overview of some of the unique features of the new Pulsar Nova range.
